BPFox is going to be 60

The place to discuss general hockey or off-ice OHL issues. Plan your bus trips, ask about the best OHL restaurants, or arena music here. It is also a place for some general hockey chatter outside of the OHL, like the Q, WHL, NHL or the minors.

BPFox is going to be 60

Postby DiscoStu » Sun Mar 02, 2014 10:50 pm

Hello gang,

Come to Saginaw on March 15th, when NOOFer BPFox will be turning 60. The Saginaw Spirit have scheduled a game of hockey against the London Knights just for the occasion. They are also inexplicably having a "green out" against a green team in honor of the beer drinking secular festival of binge drinking and debauchery known sadly as "St. Patrick's Day," which is a Church commemoration that takes place on the following Monday and honors a man who 1500 years ago worked to turn the Irish away from what his day has now become. The hockey team is fronting this whole occasion as an effort to fight homelessness, but let's face it, if hockey really wanted to fight homelessness they would cancel the game and let the homeless sleep in the arena and eat the concession stand food.

No, friends, this green-out is in honor of BPFox and him turning 60. Why, this begs for a trip down memory lane.....

When BPFox was born, Hazel McCallion was only 33 years old. She was still a businesswoman then (not mayor).
When BPFox was 3, the Detroit Lions won their most recent NFL championship on December 29, 1957.
When BPFox was 13, the Toronto Maple Leafs won their most recent Stanley Cup on May 2, 1967.
When BPFox was a little bit older than that, he was probably the last student to drag race a motorcycle through the hallway of his high school.
At this point he really didn't care about ice hockey.
When BPFox was 18, the Saginaw Gears came to town. He watched cool Ogilthorpe looking guys with crazy hair, weird mustaches, and no helmets punch each other in the face and occasionally score goals for roughly a decade.
Ask BPFox about his rockin 1969 Chevrolet Camaro, and the long list of various cars he owned back in the late 1960s and 1970s. All of those cool old cars are now gone, and what remains is the Disco Stu World Tour Bus, but at least that was built in the last decade and has heated seats and 4WD.

In 1954.....
Marilyn Monroe married Joe DiMaggio
Elizabeth II visited Australia
From Here to Eternity won the Best Picture Oscar
Bill Haley & His Comets recorded "Rock Around the Clock"
Roger Bannister ran the sub-four-minute mile
The Detroit Red Wings win their 3rd Stanley Cup in 5 years, and would win again the following year for good measure
The Detroit Pistons were still in Fort Wayne
Brown v. Board of Education decided by the US Supreme Court
The last new episode of The Lone Ranger radio show is broadcast
The first Godzilla film premieres in Tokyo
The first Burger King opens in Miami Florida
Linus Pauling wins the Nobel Prize for Chemistry

Come celebrate the stabbing in the back of Julius Caesar, help the Saginaw Spirit fight homelessness, wear green to celebrate drunkenness, and put on a party hat to celebrate BPFox's 60th. I am still working out the plans and such, but we will probably be at one of the tables in the Blue Line Club before the game. Bring your smiles and perhaps get a free pointy hat.

Hopefully we can meet for dinner ahead of time. We are coming up Friday night so we can meet any time. Anywhere is fin if Mr. Fox wants to choose the restaurant since his special day or the OHLAG's can choose if they don't get to the area as often as us

We had been planning to go on a shopping run to Birch Run and malls in either Flint or Saginaw that day anyway and hadn't checked the OHL schedule, so it's a no-brainer for us. We'd be up for dinner pregame and whatever else.

We are working on securing the 4 tickets for our London friends. You guys will more than likely be in the vicinity of Section 18 which is where the Knights bench is. Depending on the availability it could be upper or lower.

I think the plan is that BP is going to pick out a place to eat and then we can set a time to go there. It should be early enough in the afternoon that getting a table won't be too difficult.

I wanted to thank Otto and OHLAG and their significant others for coming to dinner and the game with us and I also wanted to say that Canadian ketchup is super keen.
