"The Amazing Race Canada" (Season 2)....

Postby KnightHawk » Thu Jul 10, 2014 4:00 pm

Yeah, yeah. Save your breath. You don't have to tell me.

The new season of "The Amazing Race Canada" started on Tuesday night. The series is hosted by Jon Montgomery, who won gold at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. He won the skeleton competition.
He hosted the first season, too.

How, pray tell, does this have to do with hockey?

One of the teams is none other than Natalie Spooner and Meaghan Mikkelson. They won gold as a part of the women's hockey team at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

In fact, they finished first in the first leg of the race. So, they got a "speed pass", which allows them to bypass any challenge without penalty.

Meanwhile, there's no stopping this hockey duo. They won last night's stage, too.

This is going to be like a broken record (for those of you who KNOW what a record is).

Natalie and Meaghan won last night's stage. 3 stages = 3 times they have finished 1st.

Go Natalie and Meaghan! :)

Okay....THIS is getting serious.

Natalie and Meaghan finished first in last night's stage. 4 for 4.

Next stage should be interesting. They have to give their speed pass to another team by the end of the next stage. I'm surprised they didn't do it last night.

Stay tuned....

An argument can be made that the Amazing Race Canada doesn't have a hockey connection,
but a "celebrity" connection, as has been their "hook" of late. (PARTICIPACTION, anyone ?)
If/when they win, is it really a fair competition for the other contestants ?
How many hockey fans would be watching if Natalie and Meaghan were not participating ?
Do the producers rig things slightly to ensure they continue, and the ratings stay high ?

Good luck to the gals anyway.

Agreed.

Last night's episode did have a little to do with hockey. One of the challenges was to stickhandle a puck through 4 mini pylons, and score 5 goals, one each:

top shelf left
top shelf right
bottom shelf left
bottom shelf right
five-hole

It was held at....MTS Centre in Winnipeg....home of the Winnipeg Jets!

One would think Natalie and Meaghan would have this challenge in 5 shots.

Well....

They picked off all but the five-hole in 4 shots. They were 4-for-4.
The five-hole? Took them AT LEAST 50 shots.

In fact, 2 of the other teams finished the challenge BEFORE Natalie and Meaghan.

In the end, Natalie and Meaghan finished 5th out of 7 teams. How the mighty have fallen.

However, the best thing about last night's episode was:

NO MORE REX AND ROB! :D

I watched this last year and swore I'd never tune in again.

I have a big problem with things like rifling through truckloads of beans or whatever it was or trying to find the caramel chocolate bar wrapped in gold or whatever it was as anything more than dumb luck and no skill. OK, so maybe you need to be methodical but geesh....

Same with Dancing with the Stars bringing on people that have figure skated and had choreographers work with them for eons and then you get football players where their only dance might have been in an end zone if they were lucky. How is this equitable?

All is right with the world again. Natalie and Meaghan finished first in last night's leg of the race.

Last night's leg was kind of emotional for all. The race found its way to France. Right at the end of the leg, the contestants found their way to the Canadian War Cemetery. They each reflected on those who gave up their lives for us for freedom.

Surprised Sea Bass hasn't yelled at me for not updating the series.

Ho-hum....Natalie and Meaghan won the stage on the episode that aired on Tuesday night.

Alain and Audrey....became one! At the end, Alain proposed to Audrey. She said yes. Hence, the name of the episode -- "I SAID YES!!"

Now...the race heads back to Canada for next week's episode.

I've never watched this series but I hope it's out on DVD soon. It would certainly alleviate my preparation for a colonoscopy next month.

Season 2 of "The Amazing Race Canada" has come to an end.

Natalie and Meaghan finished 2nd out of the three teams vying for the title.

In the end, it was friends Mickey and Pete who claimed the title. They are from the Muskoka area.

Congrats, Mickey & Pete! :)

My grandson and I take two-week travel trips somewhere different in Canada every summer, so we watched "Amazing Race Canada" this summer for the first time... and a bunch of the family joined us. My grandson was rooting for the Gold Medal girls and I was cheering on Cormac and Nicole. We were still pretty happy that Mickey and Pete won because of all the teams, they seemed to need the money, trucks and gas for life most. I didn't like that the show spent a lot of time outside of Canada (except Juneau Beach). Hopefully they spend more time in Canada next season and we'll see more of our own country. My favorite part... when Pete was trying to pick up Anne of Green Gables... too funny. Did you know that Rob (Rob & Ryan) was a former "Mr. Gay Canada"?
