"The Goldbergs" (again)....

The place to discuss general hockey or off-ice OHL issues. Plan your bus trips, ask about the best OHL restaurants, or arena music here. It is also a place for some general hockey chatter outside of the OHL, like the Q, WHL, NHL or the minors.

"The Goldbergs" (again)....

Yeah, yeah. You don't have to tell me.

Last night's episode had quite a bit to do with hockey.

It was revealed early in the episode that Murray (the father) absolutely detests traffic. In fact, they showed a clip of him yelling in traffic.

One of the Goldberg traditions was that Murray and one of the sons (Barry) was to go to the Philadelphia Flyers games.

The one game they attended was against Boston. With about 10 minutes to go in the 3rd, Murray says to Barry that they're leaving, citing he wants to beat the traffic.

They get home....and Murray announces the amount of time it took them to get home -- in record time!

Meanwhile, Pops (Beverly's (Murray's wife) father) was excited for the boys, saying that NHL history was made at the game.

Murray and Barry had NO idea what Pops was talking about.

It was the game that Ron Hextall became the first goalie to be credited with a goal by shooting the puck into the net!

Murray and Barry, of course, are thinking Pops is pulling their leg, citing "goalies can't score!"

Then, they watch the highlights of the game, and the footage of Ron Hextall scoring the goal.

"Wow....goalies CAN score!" :P

Later in the episode, Vic, who works with Murray, accompanies Murray to another game.

Before the game starts, the Canadian national anthem is played. Vic, who later says he's Canadian (he's from Edmonton) sings along.

Then, he takes off his jacket, and he is wearing an Edmonton Oilers jersey. Of course, there is a "C" on the front. And, on one of the sleeves, there is a 99.

Leave it to Flyers fans to remain seated and boo during the Canadian National Anthem

Plymouth played the home opener against Erie the other day. When they played the Canadian anthem (yes, even when two American teams are playing) they used an instrumental recording. So the crowd sang it instead.

24 OHL arenas and counting...

If the instigator rule is killing hockey now, having to fight every time you throw a clean hit would kill hockey even faster.
